When creating AI images, it is crucial to respect copyright laws. If you want to use an artist's work for commercial purposes for free without seeking permission, the artist's works must be in the public domain.

An artwork enters the public domain when its copyright expires. In the United States and many other countries, an artist’s works enter the public domain 70 years after their death. For collaborative works, copyright expires 70 years after the death of the last co-author.

It's essential to check whether there are two artists with identical names before using an artist’s works. The rights to one artist’s works may have expired long ago, but the other may still be alive. Such a mistake could be costly!

Remember that there are various legal exceptions, and regulations can vary significantly depending on the country or specific context. Therefore, it's always advisable to consult a lawyer specializing in copyright law if you have any doubts about using works for commercial purposes.
